"Felt more like a ticket number than a guest"
The background music really threw off the whole vibe. It sounded kind of cheap and made the place feel weird instead of relaxing. I also didn’t really feel welcomed or looked after, more like I was just another ticket number being shuffled through.

"Absolutely zero hassle to cancel"
I tried it out for a bit, and when I decided it wasn’t for me, canceling was as easy as can be. No runaround, no weird hoops, nothing. I’m 100% sure it was one of the simplest cancellations I’ve ever done.
"Keeps crashing"
I’ll be in the middle of reading and the app just shuts down out of nowhere. I tried restarting my phone and even reinstalling it, but it still does the same thing. It’s really frustrating, especially when the kids are sitting there waiting for the story to continue. Just

"Decent sounds, but kind of inconsistent"
Some of the effects actually sound good, but others are either a little flat or way too loud compared to the rest. It’s usable, just not something I’d call amazing. I also didn’t really feel like dealing with customer service about it, since I never fully trust that they’ll be much help anyway.

"Login works, but it can be a hassle"
Setting up my account was fine, nothing too complicated. But logging in has been kind of annoying because sometimes it’s slow, and then other times it’s still slow for no clear reason. It does work eventually, but I kept feeling like I was waiting and waiting just to get into my account.

"Good app, but the subscription feels a bit pricey"
I like the app overall and it’s been nice to use, but the monthly subscription feels a little high for what you get. I also wish the next steps were clearer after signing up, because I wasn’t totally sure what I was supposed to do next or where to find everything

"Really handy for read-aloud time"
I’ve been using Novel Effect in my classroom, and it’s been such a fun little boost during read-alouds. The sound effects really help keep my students tuned in, and it doesn’t take much time to get everything set up, which I appreciate. Not every book we read is on there, which can be a bit disappointing, though when a book is available, the kids get so excited that it makes it worth checking.

"I got this because I thought..."
I got this because I thought it would be helpful when my Wi-Fi is acting up, especially for class, but the offline mode has been pretty much useless because half the time the books won’t load or it still wants an internet connection anyway and it’s just really frustrating when I’m sitting there trying to use it and can’t. Not worth it for me.

"Cute idea, but I kind of regret buying it"
I thought Novel Effect would make story time way more fun, and to be fair, it can be entertaining when it actually lines up well. My kids liked the sound effects at first, and it definitely adds something different to reading. But after using it a few times, I started feeling like maybe I didn’t really need it. Sometimes the sounds come in at weird moments or just feel more distracting than magical. It’s not terrible by any means, but I don’t see myself using it every day, so I do have a little buyer’s remorse

"A helpful boost for classroom read-alouds"
I’ve been using Novel Effect during read-aloud time with my students, and it’s been a really nice addition to our routine. The educator resources are practical and easy to use, which I appreciate because I don’t always have a ton of extra prep time. The kids definitely seem more engaged in the story when we use it. It’s not something I use for every single book, but when it fits, it really adds to the experience. Overall, I’m glad I came across it.

"Makes lesson prep feel a lot easier"
In my experience, Novel Effect has made read-aloud lessons and quick activities so much easier to pull together. It saves me prep time, and I feel like the kids stay way more engaged with the story when I use it.

"I’m happy with the selection overall. My..."
I’m happy with the selection overall. My kids keep spotting books they recognize from school, which gets them excited, and there are enough new ones mixed in to keep it from getting boring. It’s nice for bedtime when we just need to choose something quickly, although I still end up having to sort through more than I’d like to find the right one.
"I was kind of in a hurry, so..."
I was kind of in a hurry, so I was glad Novel Effect made the mic permission thing really straightforward. I was a little unsure about leaving the mic on, but it explained why it needed access, and the browser pop-up showed up like normal with no confusing extra steps.
It started picking up my reading right away, which was a relief because I didn’t have time to mess with settings. I also liked that I could go back and change the permission afterward. Simple, no hassle.

"No surprises with the price"
I liked that the pricing was clear before I signed up, so I knew exactly what I was getting into. No hidden surprises or confusing fees, which I really appreciate. Overall, I’d say it was a straightforward and trustworthy experience
"I really like the idea, and my..."
I really like the idea, and my kids have fun with the sounds, especially when we’re reading together. It does help keep them focused a bit longer, and it makes story time feel less dull.
That said, the accessibility side still feels kind of hit or miss. I’d love to see more captions, simpler controls, and better options for different reading levels or languages. It’s not bad at all, it’s just not quite there yet

"I’ve been using Novel Effect for a bit..."
I’ve been using Novel Effect for a bit now, it just kind of clicked right away. I didn’t feel lost or like I had to figure out a whole new thing, which I really appreciated.
The sounds come in when they’re supposed to, and it makes reading with my kids feel way more fun in a way that’s hard to explain. Setup was quick, everything felt smooth, and overall I just really like it.

"Decent Free Reads, But It Left Me Wanting More"
I liked checking out the free content, and there are definitely some good reads in there. The only thing is, it starts to feel a bit limited quickly unless you’re willing to pay. Overall, I enjoyed what was available, but I walked away feeling like the free version just wasn’t quite enough for me.

"I’ve been having fun with it..."
I’ve been having fun with it overall, like when I’m just messing around for a few minutes, trying different features, or showing it to someone else, but the audio delay is noticeable sometimes. For example, sounds don’t always match up right away, voices can feel a little behind, and effects can come in a beat late. It’s not happening every single second, but when it does, it kind of pulls me out of the experience.

"I was actually surprised how well it picked..."
I was actually surprised how well it picked up my reading, even when I paused or stumbled over a few words. It didn’t seem to get thrown off too much. Curious if other people had the same experience with it?
